 Charles Castilla

For over two decades, Charles Castilla has led South Florida's venerable Video Vision Productions where he has created productions for broadcast and cable networks, Fortune 500 companies, non-profits and commercials. Charles comes to the industry from an acting background and holds several screen credits. Over the span of his career he has worn many hats: cameraman and director of photography, writer, producer, director and freelance photojournalist for the major news networks.
In the early eighties one of the first things he produced with his friend, “Burn Notice” producer Terry Miller, was a commercial piece for the company Med Alert in which he wrote the lines and shot the scene, “Help I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” The rest is history.
In 1992, he signed as 2nd Unit Director on the 20th Century Fox feature film “Only The Strong”. More recent, Charles gets calls to shoot behind the scenes and interviews for many feature and TV show EPK’s and promos. He feels quite at home on any film or television set he works in. Charles has DP’d and shot for many of the top television content producers from LA, New York and London. He can adapt to any shooting and lighting style, from PBS style documentaries to dramatic cinema to free form reality hand held. For him it’s a matter of what works for the script or scene.
He has produced, directed and shot projects over the years for such familiar corporate names as, American Airlines, Hilton Resorts, American Express, Auto Nation, Ford, Marriott, John Wily and Sons Publishing’s as well as high profile non-profits including the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and March of Dimes. Recently he signed to DP a six country global psychology documentary series called “Human Development: A Cultural Approach” for Pearson Education.
As a certified SCUBA diver since the age of 12, Castilla has successfully combined his leisure time interests with his professional pursuits. He has shot over 100 hours of underwater footage that has appeared on network television and corporate videos. He produced and shot a “SCUBA Diver Refresher Course” for DVD and recently produced and directed a yoga DVD titled “Yoga OnBoard” for sailors and live aboard boaters.
Charles is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) and National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET). He has a personal commitment to community service as a member of the City of South Miami Historic Preservation Board, Rotary Club of South Miami and has served on the Film and Entertainment Board for the City of Sunny Isles Beach. He is a graduate of Valley Forge Military College and the University of Georgia. He resides in Miami, Florida.
